SMS & WhatsApp Score Submission: Conversational Scorekeeping

Submitting scores via two-way text messages: phone number matching, conversational bots, and automatic verification.

Oct 12, 2026 — Paul Stroud

Players without smartphones or cellular app access can record match scores through two-way text messaging. Picklemix parses conversational texts, verifies player identity, and updates the live tournament bracket instantly.

How Text Scoring Works

  1. Automated Match Prompt: When a match is called, players receive a text: \"Court 3: Alex & Jordan vs Dave & Sam. Text back your score when finished (e.g. 11-9).\"
  2. Conversational Parser: A player texts back 11-9 or Won 11 to 9. SmsScoreConversationService parses the numbers and identifies the winning side.
  3. Opponent Confirmation: The opposing team receives an automated verification text: \"Score reported: 11-9 (Alex & Jordan won). Reply YES to confirm or NO if incorrect.\"
  4. Live Sync: Upon confirmation, the score posts to the live leaderboard and advances the winner.
